“For however dutifully we record what we see around us, the common denominator of all we see is always, transparently, shamelessly, the implacable ‘I’ “
- Joan Didion

“For some time now, I have been exploring how a Colour Dictionary can become rooted in a specific place. It raises questions about the way we experience landscapes within a technology-driven society in which images are constantly being captured and shared. At the same time, I am looking for ways to make the essence of a landscape tangible – an essence that cannot be captured directly, but emerges in the space between the real and the abstract, the analogue and the digital.”

For Kroese, colour is more than just a visual quality. It is a means of exploring, capturing and remembering a landscape. Each colour capsule represents a personal, poetic impression of a place, in which colour serves as a vehicle for memory, time and presence.
