In April 2018 I worked as an artist in residence at Studio Kura, Itoshima, Japan. And I was very lucky, because when I arrived cherry blossom was still everywhere. So the first photos I selected for my prints had a lot of cherry blossom in it and it also gave me the title of my work: I’ll make you a cherry blossom necklace.
At first, when I started to work, I placed the color fields next to the photos as I was used to. But after a while I tried to push it and I placed the colors on top of the pictures to ad an extra layer, or maybe to become part of it.
The colors I picked blindfolded from Haishoku Soukan (a dictionary of color combinations) originated by Sanzo Wada. This book I’ve been working with for quite some time now and it’s been one of the reasons I wanted to go to Japan.
